Stop Whacking Trees, Go for the Weeds!
Whether it’s because you just didn’t know or it’s the fault of an incompetent landscaping company, damage to tree trunks by weed whackers is a real thing. Younger trees which possess far less bark than mature trees are especially susceptible to damage by weed hackers.
On older trees, the layer beneath the bark that was damaged (known as the Cambium layer) can continue serving up sap, water and nutrients with little interruption.
With younger trees, a weed whacker can bust right through the Cambium layer causing serious detrimental damage. This could in fact kill your tree. This type of damage will remove the tree’s circulatory system therefore making it far more vulnerable to insect infestations or disease. The end result would be death.
We can provide your trees with the necessary protection against weed whackers or you can be a bit more proactive and have a chat with your landscaping company.
