Scratch Testing in Enka, NC
Scratch testing is another of the most common methods to observing the health of your tree. The scratch test is common for tree owners that cannot reach high enough up to where they can grab branches from the crown. To perform this test you simply need to scratch the bark of the tree trunk to see its color and feel its texture. A living tree will have a green surface beneath the trunk, which is moist. If your tree is dead the area beneath the bark will be brown, grayish, even somewhat black and dry.
Keep in mind though that some trees have more than one trunk. Those trees need to be checked for each trunk. You may find that you have only one bad trunk out of two.
Most importantly remember that dead trees should be removed ASAP for your own safety. Dead trees can damage your property, as well as those around you. Similarly, it can harm all of those within the nearby area. You should always have a seasoned tree service company handle your tree removal needs.
